Women over 50 gain weight for one reason: their metabolism simply stops working. To start losing weight, you've got to increase your metabolism. That's done several ways:

1. Increase your exercise regime.
2. Change the way that you eat. It's not necessarily the foods but the when and the how much - the Cheat Your Way Thin program is great for this! The other program that allows you to configure your diet is <a href="http://www.StripTheFatOnMe.com/link/StripFat.html' rel="nofollow">Strip That Fat either one of these programs will help you.
3. Add these foods do your diet:

Almonds
Apples
Beans
Broccoli
Cinammon
Coffee (no more than 2 cups per day)
Curry (add to food)
Grapefruit
Green Tea
Oatmeal
Soy Milk (helps with the estrogen as well)
Spinach
Turkey
Yogurt

All these foods aid in increasing your metabolism.

Also, as an exercise tool, I find this works great, it uses your own weight and if you do it consistently every day, you will lose weight. It's called the Total Gym, I'm sure you've seen it on TV, but they give you a 30 Day Trial for $1. If you use it everyday it will work for you. Within 30 days if you don't see the weight loss you're looking for - send it back!

If this isn't something you're into right now or find yourself pinched for the money, the best thing to do is to walk at least 1-2 miles each day. I'm 56 -- it takes more than 1/2 hour exercise each morning to keep my weight off (and I never had a problem with weight gain until I reached 50). Walking every day is the easiest method to get the exercise you need. It's low impact - it's great for your heart.

Another program is Pilates. I use this great DVD and it works. You can modify the exercises - don't push yourself, but you will find results with this one! 10 Minute Solution: Pilates

The bottom line is this even if you're eating 750 calories a day you're still going to gain weight because you have no means to burn the food because your metabolism shut down.

You've got to increase your metabolism through the foods you eat and the exercise you do -- this is really all there is to it!

I quit my job in Jan 09 and stop wearing the vivelle patch also. No job No insurance could no longer afford it. I started putting on weight fast and easy. I thought I knew my body well enough to know what to do to get it off just as easily. WRONG! I work out 1/2 hr every morning. Changed my eating habits. Putting in more fiber, watch the sugar, eating healthier. I have always felt better if I don't eat dinners. Thats were I use to gain all my weight. I have put on 15lbs, and close to 20 inches! I don't sit and watch TV nor stay on the computer. I am thinking about going back on the patch to see if that is the problem. What else can I do? I am 54 going on 55 in Oct. Had a mild heart attack three months ago. I walk when I can. Try to stay active during the day. HELP!
